Youngsters will contest memorial match for Wickford man who died in Flanders more than 100 years ago

A CRICKET match remembering a local man who died in the battle of the Somme more than 100 years ago will take place this week.

The Richard Bartlett Memorial match is organised by the Basildon Borough Twinning group's The Forget Never Project and takes place at 5pm on Wednesday, 11 August between between the youngsters of Wickford and Billericay cricket clubs.

The game will be played at the home of Wickford Cricket Club, the Patmore Memorial Ground, off Runwell Road, Wickford.

Richard Bartlett was 22 when he died on the Somme in France on 13 October 1916 having fought in Flanders for just more than a year.
