Vehicle seized and cops net wanted man as a bonus
A VEHICLE check by police after they stopped a car in Basildon resulted in the arrest of a man wanted on suspicion of causing a serious assault.
Following information received, an Essex Police Roads Crime Team officer on routine patrol stopped a van in Basildon on Wednesday, 13 September.
The officer was joined by colleagues from the Chigwell Roads Policing Unit at the stop in Broadmayne, where it was quickly established that the driver was not the man wanted.
The poor condition of the car resulted in the vehicle being issued with a prohibition order.
Further examination of the van at the scene, saw the driver reported for two bald tyres, with one showing exposed cords and the driver did not have a driving licence or insurance, so the vehicle was seized.
Undeterred, officers arrested a man who came to the scene whilst they were examining the vehicle after he was identified as the man wanted by colleagues.
The 34-year-old man was released on bail until 12 December while police continue investigative enquiries.
Head of Roads Policing, Mr Adam Pipe, said: "The Road Crime Team patrol the entire county, working closely with colleagues across the force, to tackle all forms of crime.
"We won't turn a blind eye to those who wish to use our roads in facilitating crime.
"The RCT will be out on patrol each and every day, focussing on the issues that matter the most to you, to prevent and detect crime and safeguard the communities we serve."
