Two men wanted following assault on man in club - who later died - have been identified

AFTER a public appeal following publication of CCTV pictures, police in Basildon have now identified two men there were seeking following an assault at the Winston Sports and Social Club in Laindon.

The incident took place at the club on Northumberland Avenue, on 12 August when a man his 30s was restrained on the floor while he was kicked to the face and hit with a chair.

The victim of the assault was taken to hospital where he later died. Essex Police have stated there is no causal link between the assault and the man's death.

A statement issued today (Thursday, 6 October) by police says: "Following a public appeal with CCTV images we have received information which will now be progressing. Our enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
