ESSEX Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT), which runs several COVID-19 vaccination centres across mid and south Essex is urging eligible people to act now and book their booster vaccine.
Appointments are available this weekend (Saturday 8 October and Sunday 9 October), and into next week at local vaccination centres including:
- Alistair Farquharson Centre, Thurrock Community Hospital
- Southend Civic Centre
- The Lodge, Wickford
The seasonal booster rollout is currently targeted at people who are at greatest risk of becoming seriously ill from COVID-19. The booster vaccine will help increase their immunity from COVID-19 during the winter months.
Appointments are currently being offered to people in the following groups:
- People aged 65 and over
- Frontline health and social care workers
- People aged 5 and over who are at high risk due to a health condition
- People aged 16 and over who live with someone who has a weakened immune system
- People aged 16 and over who are carers
- Pregnant people
If you are in any of these groups, you can book an appointment online by visiting nhs.uk/get-vaccination or by calling 0344 257 3961.
Some sites are also offering walk-in vaccination clinics, but availability will depend on vaccine supply and you may need to wait to have your vaccine. To minimise wait times and avoid disappointment, EPUT recommends booking in advance if you are able.
Elliot Cartwright, Operations Lead for the COVID-19 vaccination programme in mid and south Essex, said: "We've been incredibly pleased with uptake of COVID-19 boosters so far. More than 67,000 people have had their vaccine at EPUT clinics this autumn, taking action to protect themselves and others.
"The risk of COVID-19 and flu circulating together this year means it is vital eligible people get vaccinated.
"If you're eligible for a booster vaccine, or haven't yet had your first two vaccine doses, I would urge you to come forward and have your vaccine. Act now to increase your protection ahead of the winter months."
