Updated: Station is now open following police investigation after report of rape of 14-year-old girl

WEST Horndon station has reopened after an early morning incident.

Passengers wishing to board to leave trains at West Horndon station this morning (Monday, 6 March) had to use a bus link to Laindon station due to a police incident.

just after 9am c2c said: "Disruption caused by the police dealing with an incident near the railway earlier at West Horndon has now ended. Services are no longer affected by this problem."

British Transport Police have now issued a statement about the incident, saying: "Officers were called to West Horndon station shortly before 1am following a report that a 14-year-old girl had been raped.

"An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and rape, and the station was closed to allow forensic enquiries to take place.  

"The station has now reopened and detectives continue to investigate what happened."

Earlier a c2c spokesperson said:: "Due to a police incident at West Horndon, c2c services are not currently calling at the station.

"Passengers are advised to travel via Laindon using rail replacement bus services which will run between West Horndon and Laindon in each direction."
