Police continue to investigate teenage trouble-makers
POLICE are continuing to ask for information about anti-social behaviour incidents in Basildon over the weekend, though a special order giving them additional powers has now expired.
Officers worked through the night to progress their investigation into reported anti-social behaviour in Basildon which happened on Saturday.
A statement says: "We received reports from residents throughout the afternoon yesterday, Saturday, 5 February, of teenagers being seen with offensive weapons and behaving anti-socially in the Elizabeth Way area.
"To help keep the wider community safe and prevent further disorder, additional stop-and-search powers were authorised under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994."
Temporary Inspector Michael Peterson adds: "We know incidents like this will be concerning for those of you who live and work in the area, but please know that we take reports like these very seriously and we are confident there is no threat to the wider public.
"The additional stop-and-search powers were authorised to help us identify those who may still be in the area, intent on committing crime.
"The order was in place until 2am on Sunday 6 February, and no further incidents of violence were reported.
"Please understand that we will not tolerate this behaviour in our communities and anyone carrying a weapon, no matter what your justification may be, will be dealt with robustly."
Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed anti-social behaviour in the Elizabeth Way area yesterday, or anyone with dash cam or doorbell footage from the area, to get in contact.
