Debut Training Academy celebrated learner success at third annual awards night

By Nub News Reporter 7th Jun 2025

DEBUT Training Academy , which operates from Wickford and has salons there and in Stanford0-le-Hope hosted its third annual awards night recently, bringing together learners, tutors, families, industry leaders, and community partners to celebrate a year of achievement, growth, and transformation across the hair, beauty, aesthetics, and business sectors.

The evening honoured the exceptional progress and dedication of Debut's learners, with award categories including Learner of the Year, Apprentice of the Year, Rising Star, Tutor of the Year, and more. One of the evening's most significant highlights was the celebration of Debut's first-ever Level 7 Aesthetics graduates – one of the highest qualifications available in the industry – representing a proud milestone for both the learners and the academy.

The event also featured a powerful Industry Expert Panel, with guests from across the sector offering real-world insights, career advice, and future-focused discussion. Panellists included representatives from VTCT, The Gel Bottle, Camillie's Hairdressers, and Basildon Borough Council, who shared their expertise and championed vocational education as a vital route into successful careers.

Debut Training Academy was founded by Carla Hales and began with a simple mission: to create a learner-first environment that empowers individuals through accessible, industry-led education.

What started as a single-site training centre has now grown into a nationally recognised provider with multiple campuses across Essex and Hertfordshire, delivering accredited qualifications from Level 1 to Level 7 in beauty, hair, aesthetics, and business.

Recently graded 'Outstanding' by Ofsted, Debut is known for its commitment to quality, innovation, and learner success. The academy offers a range of funded and private training routes, including:

  • Government-funded apprenticeships (ideal for learners aged 16+)
  • Study Programme courses for those aged 16+
  • Advanced Learner Loans for Level 3 to Level 5 qualifications
  • Private diploma courses for flexible, fast-track upskilling

Whether a learner is just starting out, returning to education, or pursuing advanced qualifications in aesthetics and teaching, Debut supports every stage of the journey.

In the past year alone, Debut has expanded its team, added new qualifications and launched in Marketing and Barbering, launched a refreshed brand and website, and introduced Debut Futures CIC – a not-for-profit initiative supporting disadvantaged learners with free community workshops, life skills training, and financial education.

Ms Hales said: "This awards night is about more than trophies – it's about transformation. Every learner we celebrated has shown resilience, passion, and dedication to their future. It's been an honour to watch them grow, and we can't wait to see where they go next."

The event was supported by generous partners including The Gel Bottle, VTCT, MediMD, and Beautyworks, who contributed prizes, goodie bags, and learner rewards.

Poppy Lowe, Marketing Manager at Debut, added: "The amount of love, energy, and support in the room was overwhelming. Events like this remind us why we do what we do – and we're already looking forward to welcoming everyone back next year."
