Basildon Borough Council have agreed terms with  Morgan Sindall Property Services to retrofit more than1,000 homes as part of the Social Housing Fund (SHF) helping to make homes warmer, and more energy-efficient for residents.

This major programme will see a range of retrofit measures installed, including:

  • Loft and cavity wall insulation
  • Installation of solar PV panels
  • LED lighting
  • Mechanical extract ventilation
  • Air source heat pumps

The council says these improvements will not only support residents with lower energy bills and healthier living environments but also help deliver on the UK's net zero goals.

Cllr Adele Brown, Cabinet Member for Housing and Infrastructure, said: "This programme is about making real improvements for local people. By upgrading 1,000 council homes, we're helping families keep more money in their pockets, cutting energy bills, and making homes warmer and healthier. It's practical, cost-effective, and makes a real difference here in Basildon."

Completion is expected by the summer of 2029, and adds to MSPS's extensive portfolio of social housing retrofit projects, which to-date has included over 5,448 PAS2035-compliant energy efficiency improvements to over 1,500 homes across the UK.

Mustafa Mustafa, Head of Decarbonisation, Morgan Sindall Property Services said: "We are incredibly proud to develop our partnership further with Basildon Borough Council, supporting their net zero targets and improving the energy efficiency of council homes.

"This project will not only help the Council manage their housing stock more sustainably but also provide warmer, healthier homes for residents, improving their quality of living."
