17-year-old killed after police chase

POLICE have now given details of a crash in Basildon in the early hours of the morning, which claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy and took place while police were carrying out a pursuit.

He died after a van he was travelling in crashed into a wall during an early morning police chase in Basildon.

Essex Police officers attempted to stop a white Citroen Berlingo van shortly after 2.30am today, Saturday, 13 November.

It failed to stop for police and a short time later, the vehicle hit a wall in Pound Lane, Bowers Gifford.

The 17-year-old died at the scene and three others were taken to hospital.

An 18-year-old woman, a 17-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

The road was closed throughout the morning but has now reopened.
