Coggeshall United 4, Basildon Town 5

DESPITE not being at their best Basildon Town still had enough in their locker to take victory in a nine goal affair at Coggeshall.

The end result was a lost closer than it might have been as Town led 4-1 at half time but a sequence of midweek matches began to take its toll in the second half and the visitors tired.

However, Marcus Bowers, who got the man of the match award, got the vital fifth goal to secure the three points.

Goals came from Bowers (2), Bradleigh Rowland (2) and Rhys Wilson.

Town went into the match on the back of Wednesday's 4-1 Essex Senior Cup win at Takeley, which earns them a home tie against Grays Athletic.

Town now sit tenth in the table, eight points behind leaders Burnham Ramblers but they have five matches in hand.

Their next home match at East Thurrock United's Rookery Hill ground is on Friday (4 November) when they host bottom club Cannons Wood.
