Free school meals scheme will be repeated

A FREE school meal scheme operated by Essex County Council (ECC) will next run during the February half term, it has been confirmed.

Over the two-week Christmas school holiday, ECC provided free school meal vouchers worth £30 each for 34,412 eligible children and young people at schools and colleges in the county council's area which includes Basildon and surrounding towns and villages.

New homes planned to cut down on Basildon council house waiting list

FORTY-eight one and two bedroom homes are set to be built for residents currently on Basildon Council's housing waiting list after the authority completed the purchase of a site.

The site, located in Burnt Mills Road, Basildon, was purchased for £2.5million and is currently made up of various disused outbuildings and a detached bungalow. 83 on-site parking spaces will be provided for the new homes including visitor and disabled bays.
