AN Essex police inspector, who served in Basildon and was found to have carried out sexually inappropriate actions towards female colleagues would have been dismissed had he not already resigned, a misconduct hearing has found.

The hearing heard how former inspector Jon McLeod pursued a course of sexual misconduct. The hearing, which began on Monday 6 December and concluded on Wednesday, 8 December, was told that McLeod, who resigned from the force in March 2020, behaved inappropriately towards a number of female colleagues by sending them emails and making comments of a sexual nature.

ESSEX Police officers made five arrests, seized £20,000 in cash, and safeguarded 12 people and nine dogs during warrants at addresses across Essex in connection with an investigation into modern slavery.

Officers executed warrants at around 5am today (Tuesday, 14 December), which included two at Hovefields Avenue, Wickford. arrests were also made in Tiptree.

CONSERVATIVES in Basildon have rounded on a former activist who yesterday announced his resignation as a leading official in the local Tory organisation - by saying he has fabricated his position and his relevance within the local party.

Basildon Nub News reported on the 'resignation' yesterday (Thursday, 9 December) live on BBC Radio Essex by Charlie Sansom, who announced he was standing down as the chair of South Basildon Conservatives because he was 'sick to his stomach' of the party's leadership over Covid-19.

A LEADING Conservative activist in South Essex, with strong links to South Basildon MP Stephen Metcalfe has dramatically resigned from the party on air during a radio interview in protest against the government's plans for tighter Covid restrictions.

Charlie Sansom, the chair of South Basildon Conservatives and a strong voice and campaigner inside the Basildon and Thurrock Conservative Federation told BBC Essex he did not agree with the Plan B proposals from the government.

A public protection order

BASILDON Council has launched a consultation regarding the implementation of a borough-wide Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) prohibiting various types of anti-social behaviour (ASB).

A PSPO is a legal order to tackle ASB that would cover specific restricted areas within the borough, such as parks and town centres, and the breaching of it is a criminal offence which could be subject to a fine on prosecution (up to £1,000).
