PUPILS at an Basildon Primary School took centre stage in World Book Day celebrations this week – with a starring role in a children's news bulletin.

Children from Lee Chapel Primary School were filmed for a special edition of Espresso News - an award-winning news service for primary schools. Produced in partnership with ITN Productions, Espresso News brings the world's biggest stories to thousands of classrooms every day, via the digital learning platform Discovery Education Espresso.

A film crew from Espresso News visited Lee Chapel Primary School this week, to interview pupils about their World Book Day celebrations. The children spoke about why they enjoy reading and discussed their favourite authors, from Roald Dahl to Marcus Rashford. They also gave a tour of the school's World Book Day Fair, with lots of exciting books on display.

Teacher Will Kingston, English Reading Lead at Lee Chapel Primary School said: "The children have enjoyed a fantastic week of World Book Day celebrations and being filmed for Espresso News was a highlight. It was great to hear pupils talking about the books they enjoy. At Lee Chapel, we work hard to instil a love of reading and Espresso has lots of great resources to support this."

Howard Lewis, Managing Director UK and International at Discovery Education said: "We were delighted to feature Lee Chapel in our World Book Day bulletin and are glad to provide the school with engaging digital resources to inspire children's love of reading."
