Violent incident in pub leaves victim seriously injured

POLICE officers are appealing for witnesses to an incident in a pub in Basildon on Saturday (27 January) evening.

A statement from Essex Police says: "We were called by paramedics with reports of a seriously injured man in The Jolly Friar public house in Whitmore Way at about 6.40pm on 27 January.

"When we arrived at the scene, we found the victim and assisted with treatment before leaving them in the care of the East of England Ambulance Service.

"Our investigation is underway and officers would like to hear from any witnesses that may be able to help.

"Detective Sergeant Sandy Kelleher said: "The victim of this incident was left with serious injuries. I am sure this was traumatic for them and anyone in the pub that witnessed the attack.

"I'd like to thank all those who have already come forward to help us, and we believe there may be more people with information that will help us establish the facts of this case.
