Three-year brough-wide extension to Public Spaces Protection Order

BASILDON councillors have approved an additional three-year brough-wide extension to the existing Public Spaces Protection Order PSPO) until March 2028.
The decision will see Basildon Town Centre added to the existing illegal use of motor vehicles prohibition, the use of amplifiers in Basildon Town Centre and a borough-wide prohibition to restrict the antisocial use of bicycles.
The Order will make sure no person shall use a bicycle in a manner that causes alarm, harassment or distress to another person nearby, and they must get off the bike if instructed to do so by an authorised officer.
Cllr Melissa McGeorge, Cabinet Member for Community Safety & Enforcement, said: "Making our communities safer is a priority for the council. We have listened to the concerns of local people, businesses and other stakeholders and we are doing what they asked for.
"We are committed to ensuring our town centres, parks, and open spaces are safe and that the necessary powers are in place to deal with any persistent anti-social behaviour.
The extension will come into force on Tuesday, 1 April 2025 and will end on 31 March 2028.
