Substance thrown in face of victim of town assault

A TEENGER has suffered a potentially life-changing injury following an assault in Basildon.

Police are appealing for information following a serious assault which took place in the area of Basildon railway station.

It was reported a 17 year-old boy was attacked by a group of people along Cherrydown East at around 8.40pm on Tuesday, 21 January.

He had an unknown substance thrown in his face and has sustained a potentially life-changing injury.

The group are described as all wearing balaclavas.

Detective Constable Shannon Ross, from Basildon CID, said: "I know this incident will cause concern and we are work tirelessly to identify those responsible.

"Incidents of this nature are serious but they are rare.

"I need anyone who has any information about what happened to contact us.
