BASILDON councillors are set to decide on proposals to freeze the fees and charges on parks facilities and in cemeteries.

The cemetery fees collected by the council include interment/burial fees, grave maintenance, and memorialisation fees. The parks fees collected include sports pitches, changing facilities, bowls, and fairs/organised events.

The decision will be made at a meeting of the council's leisure and environment committee tomorrow (Thursday, 24 June) and its chairman Cllr Craig Rimmer said: "As local groups and residents return to activity following the relaxing of Covid restrictions, I'll be strongly supporting the motion to freeze fees and charges in our parks and cemeteries.

"We want to encourage residents to get back out socialising in our parks, and after the difficult year everyone has had, freezing charges is the fair option to take. I hope this decision can be agreed upon at this Thursday's committee."
