ROADS policing speed enforcement officers captured 76 drivers breaking the speed limit during an operation in Basildon.

Essex Police officers were out targeting speeding drivers in Basildon on Monday 5 February following complaints made to school crossing patrol operatives about excessive speeds in London Road.

Vange Primary School operatives reported concerns about speeding vehicles and vehicles parked inconsiderately near the school zebra crossing where dangerous driving and parking across driveways posed a real threat to the young pedestrian pupils.

In the first hour, 20 motorists exceeding the 30mph limit were stopped and the highest recorded speed was 45mph in the vicinity of the school.

Once the pupils had finished arriving, our Speed Enforcement Officers focussed their attention on Broadmayne and Southmayne where a further 56 drivers were captured on camera. At the two locations, the highest recorded speed was 67mph in a 50mph.

Speed Enforcement Officers actively work alongside partners under the Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) and Roads Police Officers to reduce the risks posed to all our road users and encourage and educate drivers to make better driving decisions.

They are dedicated to tackling road-related crime and provide reassurance to the public in areas where speeding has been raised as a concern.

They enforce traffic laws and carry out their own investigations concerning poor and dangerous driving, to bring offenders before the courts.
