ESSEX Police investigating an assault at a pub in Basildon are hoping that people may have camera footage of the incident.

Officers were called to the Jolly Friar, in Whitmore Way, shortly before 10.20pm on Saturday 13 August, to reports of an incident which had left one man injured.

A man had sustained facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains.

A statement from the police says: "Thankfully, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. Our officers arrived and a man aged in his 30s was arrested close to the scene on suspicion of GBH, assault and criminal damage.

"The investigation into the circumstances surround the incident is continuing."

Detective Sergeant Matt Longden added: "We know this incident took place inside the Jolly Friar, which would have been quite busy at the time, which means numerous people will have witnessed it and perhaps the moments leading up to it.

"I'd like to thank those people who remained at the scene in order to give their accounts but equally we know some people who witnessed the incident are yet to speak to us.

"I would urge them to please come forward as soon as possible."

The police statement added: "We would urge anyone with information about the incident, dash cam and doorbell footage of it or the moments leading up to it and after it, to please contact us as soon as possible. You can let us know by submitting a report on our website at www.essex.police.uk.

"Visit www.essex.police.uk/digital101 to find out more about our website reporting services.

"Alternatively, you can call us on 101. Please quote 42/213594/22 in any correspondence."
