AN Essex Police officer is due to appear in court having been charged with assault.

PC Leonard Fogg was charged after an incident in Basildon in March 2024, which was reported to the force's Professional Standards Department.

The incident was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which opted to carry out an independent investigation.

The charge relates to an incident which took place while PC Fogg and another officer were arresting a woman. It is alleged PC Fogg used excessive force during that arrest.

He is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Monday, 14 October charged with assault by beating.
