Police issue witness appeal after Basildon stabbing

POLICE are appealing for information after a serious assault in Basildon today (Thursday, 21 December).

Officers were called by the ambulance service to the scene of an assault in Edinburgh Way, shortly before 1.05pm.

It was reported a man had suffered a stab wound. He continues to receive hospital treatment and remains in a serious condition.

A statement from Essex Police says: "We are appealing for information to trace a suspect, described as a black male, aged around 16, 5ft 8ins tall, wearing a Louis Vuitton beanie hat and last seen on a bicycle heading in the direction of Wickford Avenue.

"A crime scene remains in place while we conduct enquiries, but we would urge any witnesses, or anyone with information, to come forward to assist us."

DI Marcus Dodd added: "Officers were on the scene within minutes of receiving this call and are conducting fast-paced enquiries to establish the circumstances of this incident.

"Officers will maintain a presence in the area as they seek to speak to witnesses and reassure residents.

"I would urge anyone with concerns, or anyone who may have information which could assist our investigation, to come forward to us as soon as possible.
