POPULAR south Essex leisure venue Basildon Festival Leisure Park - popularly known as 'BasVegas' could soon get a 24 hour cinema.

Cineworld, which is a key attraction at Festival Leisure, wants permission to show films 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

It marks a shift from the current general open hours of from around 10am to around midnight Monday-to-Sunday depending on the first and last movie screenings of the day.

The venue has 16 screens, including premium formats like IMAX, 4DX offering effects like water, wind, scent and strobe lighting and ScreenX that has a innovative 270 degree projection.

The application with Basildon Borough Council is open to consultation until the end of Wednesday, 23 September.
