POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a life-changing accident caused by a dog whose legs are mounted on a wheeled mobility aid.
It happened on Clay Hill Road, Basildon, near the junction with Swan Mead at 4.30pm on 10 December, 2020.
It was reported that a dog moved towards a pedestrian, causing the woman to fall into the road where she was in collision with a black vehicle. The 59-year-old woman sustained a foot injury considered to be life changing.
The driver and passers-by stopped to check on the welfare of the woman while she awaited an ambulance, but the driver left the scene before police arrival.
Police would like to speak to the two people who were with the dog. One is described as a woman of 'Chinese' appearance, in her 50s, with short dark hair dyed a blonde/orangey colour. She was wearing a Parka-style coat. She was in company of a white male, in his 50s and of a large build who walked with a distinctive gait described as a "waddle". He had a beard and wore a woolly hat and a Parka-style coat.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dash cam footage or who can help police identify the people with the dog is asked to contact officers quoting the crime reference number 42/205949/20.
Police would also like the driver of the black car to contact them.
Anyone who can help is asked to submit a report online at or use the 'Live Chat' button to speak to an online operator between 7am and 11pm. Alternatively, you can call 101. Information can also be given to independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
