A 33-year-old man has been jailed after admitting making threats to kill and controlling and coercive behaviour.

Police officers were notified that a woman admitted to a London hospital in a life-threatening condition on 10 March 2024, four days after she was found unconscious at an address in Elsenham Crescent, Basildon.

Despite the best efforts of doctors, 39-year-old Charlotte Randall died on 14 March.

Detectives arrested and charged Joshua Robinson, then 32 years old of no fixed abode, with threats to kill and controlling or coercive behaviour the same day.

Today (Tuesday, 22 October) Robinson, now 33, pleaded guilty to those offences at Basildon Crown Court, and was sentenced to four years in prison for making threats to kill, and two years for controlling and coercive behaviour, running concurrently. He was also given a 10-year restraining order.

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe said: "This has been a challenging and distressing case for Charlotte's family who have to deal with the ongoing loss of their loving mother, sister and friend.

"Coercive and controlling behaviour is a cruel and manipulative crime for which Robinson has rightly been given a custodial sentence.

"My officers have worked diligently throughout this case and I'd like to thank them for their commitment in securing these charges."
