THE dreadful story of the death of a baby, less than two months old, was relayed at an inquest this week.

The inquest at Chelmsford Frances Bonnie-Blue Cash, a 47-day-old baby from Basildon, died after being found lying face down on a pillow while sharing a bed with another child.

The parents raised the alarm in the middle of the night and the child was rushed to hospital where her death was confirmed.

The inquest ruled the cause of death to be "sudden unexpected death in infancy".

Reflecting on the case Coroner Michelle Brown made it clear that the parents were not at fault and there is no blame aimed at the parents surrounding the death.

However, she did highlight that co-sleeping for young infants is a risk.

Mrs Brown added: "She was discovered her lying face down on the pillow of another child's bed.

There were no injuries, she was a well-nourished baby with no fractures and bone density was normal. There was nothing in relation to any medical cause of death.

"There was nothing wrong with the house, no illegal substances, it was slightly untidy but that would be expected when you have six children.

"There is no evidence of intent in causing harm or death to this baby. The conclusion is one of open as we don't know other than sudden unexplained death in infancy."
