Five commemorative tree circles planted across the borough as part of Platinum Jubilee

Local News by Neil Speight 28th Apr 2022

FIVE new commemorative tree circles have been planted in open spaces across the borough as part of celebrations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The tree circles have been planted to support the Queen's Green Canopy, a nationwide initiative to mark this year's Jubilee by inviting people nationwide to 'Plant a Tree for the Jubilee'.

Each town of the borough has had a tree circle planted, at Gloucester Park – Basildon, Green Open Space - Billericay, Nevendon Road Recreation Ground - Wickford, Victoria Park - Laindon, and Northlands Park - Pitsea.

The trees are all Prunis Aviums - a beautiful, pink-leafed species of cherry tree, and 66 have been planted across the five locations.

Plaques to commemorate the occasion will be installed at each location, with the unveiling ceremonies at each of the five locations taking place later this year.

You can find out more about the Queen's Green Canopy and everything else going on across the borough as part of the Jubilee celebrations on Basildon Council's dedicated webpage at: www.basildon.gov.uk/platinumjubilee
