E-bike with knife arrested after trying to outrun police

A MAN was arrested on suspicion of drugs and weapons offences after failing to stop on an e-bike.

Officers had directed a man to stop the e-bike he was riding in Park Road, Wickford, at around 7.55pm yesterday (Saturday, 31 August).

The rider failed to do so and tried to make off, mounting the pavement.

Officers managed to stop and detain the main and, after carrying out a search, recovered a knife, a large amount of cannabis, and a four figure sum of cash.

The man – who is 23 and from Wickford – was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs, possession of an offensive weapon, dangerous driving, and failing to stop when directed.

He remains in custody.
