THREE of Basildon Council's recent home building projects have been shortlisted for awards at the prestigious Inside Housing Development Awards.

The awards are to recognise quality homes and sustainable places, featuring the best residential developments across the UK.

The shortlisting's include two recently completed projects, with the council's house building company Sempra Homes' development at Monarch Place being shortlisted for Best Shared Ownership, and the council's own project at Acorn House to deliver 94 one and two-bed homes for residents on the council's housing register being shortlisted for Best Affordable Housing.

The other nomination came in the Best Partnership category for the council's ongoing development of 16 self-contained accommodation units at Nevendon Place – which will provide accommodation and a dedicated support network for residents who find themselves homeless.

Cllr Jeff Henry, Member Director of Sempra Homes and Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing, Leisure, Arts & Culture said: "These three very different projects are all fantastic developments that show the variety of the council's house building.

"Acorn House has provided much needed council housing in an especially convenient location around Basildon town centre, Monarch Place is a stylish development that gives borough residents the chance to get themselves on the property ladder, and Nevendon Place will provide those who sadly find themselves homeless the chance to start a new life.

"I'm delighted that all three have been shortlisted, and with the quality of each development there will be no surprises from me if we scoop any of the awards."

Melanie Keys, of Sempra Homes, added: "It's a brilliant achievement for the council and Sempra Homes to be shortlisted for such prestigious national awards in competition with both private and public sector developments.

"Monarch Place is a development that we're really proud of – the aesthetic of the whole development is unique and eye catching, the kitchens come fully equipped with integrated appliances, there's stylish flooring throughout, homely carpet in the bedrooms, and high-quality tiling in the bathroom and cloak room.

"There's also still three homes available for shared ownership with priority to purchase for borough residents, workers from the emergency services, and teachers from the borough's school and colleges, so take a look and one of the brilliant homes there could be yours."

The winners and highly commended will be announced at the Inside Housing Development awards ceremony in London on 30 September.
