Call goes out for sites that might be developed as council seeks to map out borough's future

By Neil Speight 24th Oct 2022

RESIDENTS, landowners and businesses are being encouraged by Basildon Council to share details of sites that could be suitable for development.

The call was made as the council continues to formulate its new local borough-wide plan which will set out the overall planning framework to support growth and development.

It will contain a 'spatial strategy' which identifies locations for delivering development needs such as housing, employment, retail, leisure, and infrastructure.

The Government sets out the requirements to identify land that is suitable, available and achievable for housing and economic development.

A site is considered suitable if it would provide an appropriate location for development; available if, on the best information available, there is confidence that there are no legal or ownership impediments to development; and achievable where there is a reasonable prospect of the land being developed.

Cllr Richard Moore, cabinet member for strategic lanning and infrastructure, said: "The Call for Sites is an important step in the council's work towards a new local plan for Basildon Borough. This process helps us identify all of the land that could be appropriate for development over the next 15-20 years.

"We would, of course, encourage urban and brownfield land to be put forward in the first instance, but we would welcome the submission of any parcels of land within Basildon Borough for technical consideration."

Full details on the Call for Sites, including submission forms can be found on the council's website: www.basildon.gov.uk/article/4954

The Call for Sites will be open from Wednesday 19 October to Wednesday, 14 December 2022.
