OVERNIGHT snow has forced the cancellation of waste bin collections in Basildon.

Barleylands Recycling Centre will also remain closed today due to overnight snowfall and freezing temperatures.

A statement from the council says: "Rubbish and recycling collections have been suspended due to snow and ice, further updates to follow.

"In areas where collections have been suspended we ask that residents please take their waste and recycling in from the kerbside until a revised collection day is announced."
