A MASSIVE new housing development that will include a new stadium for Basildon United Football Club is being recommended for approval at a planning meeting coming up in the coming week.

On Tuesday (30 March) members of Basildon Council's planning committee will debate the plan for 700 new homes in the area around Gardiners Lane.

The site has been earmarked for development in the local district plan and the new development would come with significant demands, meaning builders would make large contributions to the local community, including education.

Basildon united would get to play at a new sporting community hub including main stadia pitch, new artificial 3G pitch, playing pitches and new club house pavilion.

Homes England and Basildon Developments Ltd who are behind the scheme have to provide land for a primary school and early years facility and a contribution of £2,200,000 towards early years, primary and secondary school places.

Thirty-one per cent of the new homes must be affordable housing with a mix of properties to rent and buy.

Developers will also have to contribute £205,000 towards improvements to Whitmore Park and Holy Cross Recreation Ground.

More than £200,000 will be given to "healthcare facility improvements."

In a later phase of the project a further 74 homes are planned.

Full details of the application can be found here.
