Appeal by police after man is threatened with knife before being robbed at Basildon underpass

POLICE are looking to trace witnesses to a robbery in Basildon on Saturday, 9 January.

Three men jumped in front of the 35-year-old man as he rode his bike through the underpass between Long Lynderswood and Westgate Shopping Centre at 8am.

One punched him and another threatened him with a knife before searching his pockets, taking a sum of cash. The victim was left shaken but unhurt.

The man with the knife was described as black, 6ft tall and of medium build. He wore a tracksuit with the hood up and black gloves.

The two other men were described as black, about 5ft 11ins tall and wore dark gloves.

A police statement says: "We are continuing our enquiries and would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time who saw what happened or saw anyone acting suspiciously at the time. Contact Basildon CID quoting reference 42/4789/21.
