A NUMBER of events have been planned by Basildon's Twinning starting with a symbolic football match next week and next month a local headteacher will be walking the borough boundary as part of an Oktoberfest at her school.

In collaboration with Basildon Council, Ryan Donnelly is forming a Young Twins Team to play a team of refugees in a game to launch the twinning group's contribution to the International Day of Peace. The game will be played at 6pm on Monday, 20 September at Beauchamps School in Wickford.

MP backs British Food Day

BASILDON MP Stephen Metcalfe has today (Wednesday, 15 September) shown support for British food and farming on Back British Farming Day, recognising the crucial role farmers in his South Basildon and East Thurrock constituency play in producing food for the nation.

The National Farmers' Union (NFU) provided MPs with the emblem of the day - a wool and wheatsheaf pin badge – to enable them to join the celebration of British agriculture. Food and farming are key business sectors, worth more than £120 billion to the national economy and providing jobs for almost four million people.

WICKFORD firefighters helped to clear a flooded road after a water main burst in Bicknacre last night.

The crew had been making their way back to Wickford Fire Station after supporting colleagues at another incident when they spotted the water on White Elm Road.
