ESSEX County Council has defended its decision to close a carriageway on a busy local road, even though the decision has infuriated motorists who have queued for up to 90 minutes to get past the scene – only to see no work has been done there since the cones went up at the beginning of the week.

The closure of the carriageway just after the Five Bells roundabout on the eastbound A13 will continue for at least another week before work begins.

ESSEX Police volunteer police officers, especially those stationed in Basildon, have been presented with The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service to mark the huge contribution they make in helping to keep our county safe.

A TEENAGER has been found guilty of the murder of popular dad of four James Gibbons in Basildon.

Mr Gibbons, 34, was stabbed four times outside his home in Iris Mews in Laindon, Basildon, at around 9.30pm on Sunday, 2 May. He had been holding a birthday party for his two young daughters.

FIREFIGHTERS rescued a woman who was trapped in her car following a road traffic collision in Basildon earlier today (Monday, 1 November).

Crews were called to Timberlog Lane in Basildon where the woman was trapped in her car following a two vehicle road traffic collision.

BASILDON'S community radio station can now be heard across the region on DAB digital radio.

The station, which has been running for 11 years, is simulcasting its 97.8 FM service to the whole county.
