MEMBERS of the Basildon community joined forces this week to commemorate the 'Remember Srebrenica' event.

On Monday, 4 July, members of the Basildon Twinning Association, including youngsters representing its 'Next Generation Young Twins' group, and senior members of Basildon Council including the mayor and deputy mayor, met at the Basildon Centre to raise a commemorative flag.

The flag raising followed a request from association member, Ryan Donnelly, 17, a former student at Wickford's Beauchamps School, who learned about the Bosnian war at school and it motivated him to ask the council to recognise the war and support the cause to 'Remember Srebrenica' during the memorial week to commemorate the lives lost 27 years ago.
