Woman in court following incident that claimed lives of two children in Pitsea

A woman has appeared in court charged in connection with a fatal collision in Pitsea.
Sixteen year-old Roman Casselden and nine year-old Darcie Casselden died following a collision involving the privately owned e-scooter they were riding and a car in Ashlyns on 1 February.
The driver of the car was arrested and has now been charged with failing to stop at the scene of a collision.
The 21-year-old woman appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 28 August and is next due to appear at the same court on 8 January 2026.
She remains on bail in connection with other driving offences and our investigation into those is ongoing.
A man arrested at the time has been told he faces no further action.
