What's occuring? Round Table chairman to walk from Billericaty to Barry for CALM
By Daniel white 7th Aug 2026
A ROUND Table chairman is taking on the famous Billericay-to-Barry journey made famous by Gavin & Stacey – but on foot.
On Sunday, 16 August, Daniel White will set off from The Railway pub in Billericay and walk almost 190 miles over seven days, finishing at Marco's Café on Barry Island on Saturday. 22 August.
Daniel previously lived in Barry and began his Round Table journey there with Barry Round Table 516, making the finish particularly personal.
He is now Chairman of Lichfield Round Table and Chairman of Area 35 West Midlands Round Table.
Daniel said: "You can't say Billericay to Barry without thinking of Gavin & Stacey, although Gavin definitely had more sensible ways of getting there than walking nearly 190 miles!
"Barry also means a huge amount to me. I lived there, it's where my Round Table journey began, so finishing at Marco's Café will be pretty special."
Members of Billericay Round Table will meet Daniel at The Railway before his midday departure, and local people are warmly invited to attend, wish him well or join him for part of the first stage towards Ilford.
Daniel added: "Whether somebody comes down to say hello, walks one mile or stays with me for longer, the support will mean a lot."
THE ROUTE
Sunday 16 August – Billericay to Ilford
Monday 17 August – Ilford, Central London and CALM HQ to Maidenhead
Tuesday 18 August – Maidenhead to Oxford
Wednesday 19 August – Oxford to Cirencester
Thursday 20 August – Cirencester to Thornbury
Friday 21 August – Thornbury to Cardiff Bay via Chepstow and Newport
Saturday 22 August – Cardiff Bay, Penarth and Sully to Barry Island
Most days will be around 30 miles, with shorter opening and final stages.
WHY CALM?
Daniel is raising money for Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), his chosen charity during his year as Chairman of Area 35 West Midlands Round Table.
According to CALM:
• Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50 in the UK.
• One in four people will experience suicidal thoughts during their lifetime.
• Someone in the UK dies by suicide every 90 minutes.
• Someone struggling contacts CALM every 59 seconds.
• £12.20 can fund a call to CALM's life-saving helpline.
Daniel said: "Those statistics are exactly why we need to talk about suicide. Seven days of difficult walking is nothing compared with what some people are carrying every day.
"If this raises money for CALM, starts conversations and encourages people to check in on their mates, every mile will be worth it."
