Ticket taps top a million

LOCAL rail company c2c has announced that more than one million pay as you go with contactless taps have now been made by its customers across the whole route, since the launch of the payment method in February.
c2c has announced that pay as you go with contactless ticketing continues to be hugely popular with customers across the route, with the one million taps milestone reached earlier this month.
Since being launched in February as part of the Government's 'Project Oval' initiative, customers have been able to travel across the entire c2c route, into and around London and the wider pay as you go area using a single contactless payment card or device, making c2c the only national rail operator offering a fully contactless network.
Commenting, c2c's Commercial and Interim Customer Director, Eleni Jordan, said: "Contactless ticketing has been a huge success with customers since being launched across our entire route earlier this year, and to have recorded over one million taps in a little under six months is just incredible.
"This quick and easy to use payment and ticketing method continues to grow month on month, and we are now seeing an average of ten thousand taps (in and out) being made at our new contactless stations each day."
Eleni added: "c2c continues to lead the way when it comes to exploring and introducing enhanced digital solutions, and we remain fully committed to providing customers with quick and easy access to a wide range of ticketing and payment options."
Pay as you go with contactless is available during both the peak and off-peak to all customers in possession of a valid contactless payment card or device (mobile phone or smart watch).
In addition to the c2c network, this ticketing and payment method can be used across London and the wider pay as you go with contactless area, with the best value adult fare calculated and charged for journeys made on the day and time of travel.
For most people, this fare is the same as a ticket bought on the day. Customers can also benefit from Monday to Sunday price capping when travelling into and within London.
