A TEACHER at a Wickford school has been banned from teaching after downloading an indecent video featuring a six year old child.

Michael Baker, 33, taught at North Crescent Primary School in Wickford.

A Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) panel was told the video he downloaded on 14 August 2022 was of category A, the most serious.

The panel was told the National Crime Agency became aware of the activity and tracked the IP address to Baker's home.

Baker admitted downloading the indecent image and accepted a police caution.

The panel was told "During the interview, Mr Baker admitted to downloading an indecent image.

"Mr Baker admitted to watching one minute of the video, after which he watched a different video afterwards, not related to the allegations."

"Mr Baker stated that this was a 'one-off stupid mistake' at the police interview."

Baker was banned from teaching indefinitely and placed on the sex offenders register for two years.
