Members of community radio station Gateway 97.8 have been honoured with invitations to the King's Coronation garden parties at Buckingham Palace.

The radio presenters were invited because of the station's work in the community, particularly training of new volunteers. The station was awarded a Princess Royal Training Award during the Covid period for this work.

Editor Johnny Jenkins will attend the historic event at the Palace today (Wednesday, 3 May), while presenter Kurt Wilson will attend next week.

Kurt, who is the station's longest-running volunteer, presents a Saturday afternoon show on Gateway between 12-3pm, and will provide special Coronation coverage this weekend.

Johnny, whjo recently ran the London marathon for good causes, joined the station aged 14 and has become the station's Editor and non-executive Director. He also works as a commercial radio news producer and broadcaster.

Johnny said: "I'm excited to be attending the garden party at Buckingham Palace, especially during such an historic time for the Royal Family.

"I hope to be able to share stories about Gateway's work with other volunteers and maybe even a member of the Royal household!".

Tune in to Gateway 97.8's special Coronation coverage this weekend on 97.8 FM, online and on your smart speaker.
