Roads to be resurfaced - but at what cost?
By Matthew Critchell LDRS 29th Apr 2026
SIX roads on a Pitsea estate will be resurfaced in a weeks-long project, but council bosses don't know how much it will cost. The roadworks will take place from June 29 until July 17, in Eastbrook Mews and the surrounding streets. Essex County Council, which is the highways authority, said it is due to agree prices with the contractors for the works.
The county council says the whole road will be relayed "to improve conditions and safety for road users". Motorists hope it will "not cause major disruption".
Jean Coleman, 45, said: "While this is much-needed, I think they need to work around us and ensure we are not badly affected.
"I wonder if this has been announced due to the elections. I hope it will improve things and mean less risk of damage to our cars."
It comes as potholes and road improvements are top of the priorities for voters ahead of next week's local elections.
The following road resurfacing works have been scheduled from 8am to 5pm:
- Malgraves: June 16 to 22
- Plumleys: June 29 to July 1
- Malgraves and Malgraves Place: July 2 to 6.
- Eastbrook Mews, Eastbrooks and Eastbrooks Place: July 14 to 17
- Malgraves and Malgraves Place: July 2 to 6.
