A BASILDON man was jailed for 12 years on Friday, 5 December for committing child sexual offences.

Terry Park, known locally as Tye O'Shea, had denied the offences, but was found guilty by a jury following a nine-day trial at Southend Crown Court in October.

The jury found him guilty of one count of rape of a girl under 16 and four counts of sexual assault by penetration.

The survivor in this case, supported by our officers and Synergy Essex, chose to face her abuser in court when she gave evidence.

The 30-year-old, of no fixed address, was handed down a sentence of 12 years in prison, with an extra four years on licence.

He was also given a life-time restraining order, will be on the sex offenders' register for life and will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

Following the sentence investigating officer Detective Constable Aaron Aujia said: "This sentence shows the seriousness of Park's offending. He showed no signs of remorse, and it is right that he serves a lengthy prison term for his abhorrent crimes.

"I really hope this will help the survivor in this case move forward with her life.

"Violent and sexual offences against children, the most vulnerable members of our society, will be thoroughly investigated by specialist officers.

"They will not be tolerated in our county, and we work tirelessly to bring those offenders before the courts. I would encourage anyone with concerns to come forward and talk to us, you will be listened to and supported.

"And there are support services available, so even if you don't feel ready to report an offence to police, please speak to someone. You are not alone."
