POLICE officers investigating a serious assault in Basildon are asking for the public's help.

A statement from Essex Police says: "We were called to reports of an injured man at Ballards Walk, Basildon, around 9.15am on Friday, 19 April.

"Ambulance service colleagues took the man, aged in his 40s, to hospital after he sustained a facial injury.

"The suspect left the scene in a car and was described as a bald man in his early 40s. He was wearing a T-shirt and body warmer with light grey jogging bottoms.

"Due to the time of day, we believe that there will have been people in the area and who might have seen the incident.

"We'd ask anyone who hasn't spoken to us already to contact us.

"If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us quoting incident 274 of 19 April when providing any information to make sure it gets to the right person as quickly as possible.

"You can let us know by submitting a report on our website where you can use our online Live Chat service available Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) between 10am-9pm.

"Visit https://www.essex.police.uk/digital101to find out more about our website reporting services. Alternatively, you can call us on 101.

"If you would like to make an anonymous report, you can contact independent charity Crimestoppers on Twitter at @CrimestoppersUK, by visiting their website or by calling 0800 555 111."
