A MURDER investigation has been launched in Basildon following the death of a woman.

Police received notification of a woman who had been admitted to a London hospital in a life-threatening condition on Monday, 10 March after she was found unconscious at a Basildon address.

The woman, aged in her thirties, died on Thursday, 14 March and subsequent enquiries suggest the woman had been the victim of an assault.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of her murder.

A statement from Essex Police says: "We remain on scene at a property in Elsenham Crescent, Basildon, where we are carrying out enquiries."

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe, of the Essex Force Serious Crime Directorate, who leads the investigation, said: "We know that this will shock the Basildon Community, but at this stage of our investigation, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the woman's death.

"We will be carrying out enquiries to help us establish the events that took place before the woman was taken to hospital and I'd ask anyone who holds information that could help our investigation to contact us.

"Our officers will be in the area today and you can approach any of them and tell them what you know.

"Any detail, no matter how small it may seem at this stage, could help us."

"If you have any information or footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.

"You can let us know by submitting a report on our website where you can use our online Live Chat service available Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) between 10am-9pm.
