CONCERNED residents in an area of Basildon have called for action to bring light back to their streets.

The residents in Turner Close, Laindon, says that street lights in the area have been broken, some for as long as three years, and the lack of repairs makes the area dangerous. And adjacent streets suffer similar problems.

One resident says: "It's been like it for years. It's really dangerous, it's just allowing criminal activity to go unnoticed. People are getting increasingly angry that nothing is being done about it.

"We've had councillors down here to check it out, and still nothing is done."

While the lights are the responsibility of Essex County Council, which has come in for criticism, residents have also pointed the finger at Basildon Council for allowing bushes and hedges in the area to become overgrown, also adding to the danger for pedestrians, particularly at night.

"It just seems that our area is forgotten about," added the resident.
