By Samantha Fielding 19th Aug 2026
People living with persistent pain are being invited to a free public event in Basildon this September that will explore the surprising science of pain.
Pain: Do You GET It?, hosted by Flippin' Pain, will take place at Towngate Theatre, Basildon, on Wednesday 16 September 2026 from 2pm to 3.30pm. The event will be led by renowned pain scientist Professor Cormac Ryan, one of the UK's leading experts in pain education and management.
The event will include an entertaining talk and the chance to ask questions to health professionals and those living with pain themselves.
Evidence shows that learning about the science of pain can be a powerful first step towards better managing the condition, helping people to feel more confident and informed about their pain. Flippin' Pain is a national campaign working alongside the NHS and Cora Health to share this information in an easy-to-understand way.
Cormac Ryan, Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation at Teesside University and Community Pain Champion for Flippin' Pain, said:
"Persistent pain affects millions of people, yet there are still many myths about what pain is and how it works.
"The encouraging news is that when people understand the science of pain, it can transform the way they think about their condition and support them to take positive steps forward. We're looking forward to meeting people in Basildon and sharing knowledge that could make a real difference to their lives."
The event is free to attend and open to anyone affected by persistent pain, as well as family members, carers and healthcare professionals interested in learning more about the science of pain. To book a place, visit the Flippin' Pain website.
