A NEW running event for Basildon that would see its council team up with Pitsea Running Club has taken a step forward.

Members of Basildon Council's Leisure and Environment Committee met to consider the proposal to enter into discussions with Pitsea Running Club to run a either a 10km or five mile event as part of the celebrations of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Chairman of the Leisure and Environment Committee Cllr Craig Rimmer said: "This is a very exciting and worthwhile idea. We've seen the success of the Backside to Trackside programme and how well attended run events are around the borough.

"This event would provide further incentive for our residents to get active whilst celebrating the jubilee year."
