BASILDON MP Stephen Metcalfe visited Lee Chapel Primary School on the The Knares, Basildon, where he presented the Queen's Jubilee Certificate to the school head as well as seeing the new theatre which is being built on the site.
Mr Metcalfe met with head Mrs Sue Jackson and presented an honorary certificate to mark the Queen's 70th anniversary on the throne. Each pupil has also been presented with their own personalised copy of the certificate.
He also got to see the work being done on the new theatre which is near to completion.
Mr Metcalfe said: "I remember the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977 very well. It is a wonderful memory for myself, and I wanted to do something for the school pupils of today to be able to remember this excellent occasion too.
"Additionally, I was impressed by the fantastic new theatre that has been built and I am looking forward to its official opening. Performance in all its forms is a great opportunity for children and young adults to build their confidence and help develop public speaking skills, therefore the addition of a local theatre to Lee Chapel is extremely welcome".
