POLICE have launched a murder investigation after a man died in Laindon last night (Sunday, 2 May).

A statement from Essex Police says: "We were called with reports of a man having been attacked in Iris Mews, shortly after 9.30pm.

"We arrived and found a man had been stabbed. Sadly, despite the efforts of medical staff, the man, aged in his 30s, died.

"Four teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

"We are progressing our enquiries and there will be a police presence in the area throughout the day.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident, has footage of what led to it or has information on it should submit a report online here where you can use the 'Live Chat' button to speak to an online operator between 7am and 11pm.

"You can also call us on 101 and cite incident 1292 of May 2. Information can also be given to independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

In the wake of the incident police have announced they have stepped up patrols in the area, though they have also stated they do not believe there is any increased risk to the public.

A statement added: " We are carrying out additional and high visibility police patrols in Laindon over the coming days as we continue our investigation.

"We do not believe there is any wider threat to the public but we understand tragic events such as this will naturally cause shock and distress within the community."

Chief Inspector Chris Bradford, Basildon District Commander, said: "What happened in Iris Mews last night is a tragic loss of life and the thoughts of everyone at Essex Police are with the victim's family and friends.

"You will have seen a large policing presence in the area today and I can confirm we will have additional patrols in place in the local area over the coming days to reassure our residents.

"I would encourage anyone who wants to speak to those officers to do so – they are there to help you."

He added: "Rest assured, we have had highly skilled officers working tirelessly on this investigation throughout the night and into today as we piece together the events leading up to the murder and the incident itself."
