Man arrested soon after burglary and brought before court

A MAN has been charged in connection with a burglary where £3,000 worth of perfumes and aftershave were stolen.

Essex Police officers working on an operation in Basildon town centre, which utilises uniformed and plain clothed officers, yesterday (Tuesday 28 September) arrested a man on suspicion of theft from a shop.

Following further investigation, the man was also later further arrested in connection with a burglary at Savers in Wickford High Street on Monday (27 September).

Matthew Cook, 39, of Market Avenue, Wickford has been charged with burglary and theft from a shop. He appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court today (30 September).

Since the burglary at Savers on Monday, officers have recovered the stolen items.
